I never thought of S.H. as silly, exactly. I guess I love ACD's Holmes more than any other fictional character because nothing else distracts me so completely---with no lingering hangover of sadness or impatience (well there is the Veiled Lodger). It's all about the delivery, like a clean breeze. It's absolute escapism, precious and pure.

I'm going to look into renting this, thanks for bringing it to my attention!

It's striking how my expectations of Mensa are represented in your post. I did the Mensa test too and was allowed to join Mensa. Except I didn't. My first motivation for taking the test was the same as yours, to see if I'm as smart as I think I am. If I would be allowed to join, I said to myself, I'd decide later on if I really wanted to join. I saw a lot of people at the test site, and was appalled by the sheer arrogance many of them showed. I also got an New Age vibe from some of the guys, but the arrogance was the most appalling thing I sensed. That made me decide not to join. Looks like it was a good choice.

*sigh* I, too, am a victim of Mensa disillusionment. lol I signed on figuring I could delve into the depths of higher evolution; oh, all the things we could discuss in the forums without "Dude, have you seen my car" being the most important conversation!

Bummer. It turns out that those with a higher IQ than mine are as wrapped up in their own worlds as those with a lower or same IQ. I'm starting to think that *gasp* stimulating conversation can't be found online....

But it does look good on the CV...
